A man has been arrested after he tried to steal a steamer on board a cargo ship in Australia.
The man, who was not identified, was stopped after he allegedly made a phone call to the ship’s owner in the Pacific Ocean, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The steamer was en route from New Zealand to Australia when it was stopped at the Strait of Malacca.
The crew noticed the man was not wearing any clothes on board and alerted police.
Police found two bags containing clothing and an empty water bottle on the ship, which was travelling from New York to Sydney, Australia.
Police also found a knife on the steamer’s deck.
The 41-year-old was charged with possession of a prohibited item and obstructing a police officer.
A Sydney woman has been charged with attempting to commit a crime.
Police said the woman allegedly tried to leave the ship to take a shower before the man took control.
They also allege the man threatened to kill himself if the crew did not return to the port.
The woman is due to appear in court on December 12.
