A few weeks ago, my wife and I were at a party, and as soon as we got there, a young man approached us with a question that I didn’t quite know how to answer.
I asked him if he’d like to get a Mens Fashion show, and the young man responded with a very simple yes.
He’d like the shirt he had on.
He said he wanted a shirt that he liked.
That was it.
The only thing I was worried about was that he didn’t have money for clothes.
But, he did have money.
A $200 gift card.
He was able to use the card, and he went shopping for clothes and he bought a pair of pants for his daughter.
He had some money left over for clothes for his daughters.
He’s a very generous guy.
And he didn, in fact, go shopping for a shirt.
I was like, Oh my God, I didn`t realize that he had such a generous soul.
And, I said, Well, I think you should buy it.
He did, and that was the first time I saw it, because he said he’d be in the show.
And I thought, What the heck, he really wanted that shirt.
It was like a dream come true for him.
I said that I thought I would be in a similar situation.
I went shopping with him, and we ended up with a shirt he wanted, and a dress I liked.
And that`s why I`ve been a loyal customer for my entire life.
So, I had some leftover money for him to buy a pair.
And then I went back to my store and I was thinking, What is wrong with this guy?
What could he be trying to get out of me?
And, in that moment, I realized that this young man was in a lot of pain.
And so, I came to realize that there is no way I can keep going to a store that has been such a big part of my life, that`d hurt my feelings.
And the problem with being a loyal consumer is that you have to go through that.
And when I started seeing the impact that the store had on me, that was a great learning experience for me.
The best thing I can say is that when you`re a loyal and loving consumer, you`ve got a lot to be thankful for.
You`re able to go shopping with the person who`s doing the right thing for you, and it`s a wonderful thing to experience.
But I also know that if you don`t, that you`ll just be wasting time, and then when you go back, you may end up feeling really hurt.
And it`ll be like, Well I don`ve always done the right things, and I`m always going to be hurting, because I`ll feel like I`re not being a good consumer.
So what you do is you have the mindset that, I want to feel like it`re the person doing the best for me, so that`ll help me stay motivated, and you know, I`d rather give my time than take that away from me.
So you have a better perspective.
And you know what?
I`b going to stick to my guns.
And my customers will be the ones that will benefit from that.
